    Overview

    Gaumukh Tapovan Trek

Gaumukh is the terminus of the Gangotri Glacier, which is the source of the Bhagirathi River and the Ganges River. The location is in the Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand, India, at a height of 13,200 feet (4,023 metres). Gaumukh is a Hindi word that means “cow’s mouth.” Initially, the snout appeared to resemble the “Mouth of a Cow,” according to some theories. Gaumukh is situated at the base of the Gangotri Glacier, while Tapovan is located above it. With an estimated volume of over 27 cubic kilometres, it is one of the largest in the Himalayas. Read More
