    Overview

    Sarutal Lake Trek

Sarutal is a majestic lake in the Himalayas that lies ahead of Kedarkantha in an idyllic setting. At an elevation of 4,200 metres, it is nestled between high mountain peaks and untouched vast meadows. Sarutal Lake is located in Uttarkashi’s Govind National Park, which is home to a diverse range of alpine flora and fauna. Local shepherds, oddly, explored Sarutal in their quest for pasturelands. It is one of the few remaining virgin Himalayan treks, having been obscure and locked for many years. Read More

    Itinerary Details

    Dehradun to Sankri
Dehradun is the starting point for the Sarutal trek. The trekkers must arrive before 6:30 a.m. for a breathtaking trip to Sankri, the basecamp. The scenic drive takes you along adventurous Himalayan paths, where you can enjoy an amazing long drive and stop for lunch in the centre. Sankri is a bustling village in Uttarakashi's Govind Wildlife Sanctuary, located 220 kilometres from Dehradun. Arrive in the evening and check into a hotel that has been pre-booked. Now, in your spare time, go wandering in the enchanting village. Sankri market is a bustling but beautiful location with a few local-owned shops and a few restaurants.
    Day - 1
    Sankri to Juda Ka Talab
Today's trek begins in Sankri, and the journey to Juda Ka Talab is 4 kilometres long. As a result, get up early after breakfast and it will take you about 5 hours to get there. Begin your journey by leaving Sankri and passing through the village of Saur. The steep ascent begins now. The path follows a rushing stream all the way to Kedarkantha. The climb now takes place across dense pine and maple forests with several bridges. It is the stunning landscape that can render you speechless. The path is wide, and all you can hear are the sounds of gushing streams. Along your walk, you'll travel through some beautiful villages and see villagers going about their everyday lives. Along the way, you could see some Himalayan Langoors and other jungle species. Hares, martens, and boars, however, remain in the woods and can be seen here. After crossing a few streams and continuing trekking through the thick jungle, you'll arrive at Juda Ka Talab, one of Uttarakhand's best campsites. It's a rare woodland clearing with a large glacial lake nestled in thick forest that's suitable for camping. At night, feast your eyes on the magnificent sight of the sky shining with shimmering stars, which adds to the appeal of camping. Today's stay will be in tents.
    Day - 2
Juda Ka Talab to Kedarkantha via Kedarkantha base and descent to Dunda Thach
The journey continues through its base towards Kedarkantha. The track is now transparent and visible. The first section of the hike begins with a steep ascent through a thick forest of oak and pine trees. Several shepherd huts can be visible in the big meadows along the way, which are a joy to watch. Stop in the middle of your trip to rest and soak in the calm environment of nature. After a brief rest, continue to the base, where you will be rewarded with magnificent views of Black Top, Swargarohini, Ranglana, and Bandarpoonch. There are various trails that lead to the summit, but the key even trail is recommended. The road passes through more trees, and when you near the summit, the climb becomes steep and strenuous. However, the panoramic views of rising peaks from the top of Kedakantha are well worth the effort. After a strenuous walk, you will be rewarded with the sight of a majestic temple dedicated to Lord Shiva, Parvati, and Ganesha. Not only are the temples present, but the panoramic view of snow-capped peaks is breathtaking. Spend some time resting there before planning to descend to Dunda Thach.
    Day - 3
    Dunda Thach to Taloti Thach
Taloti Thach, 11 kilometres from Dunda Thach, is today's campsite. Start the day off right with a spectacular sunrise from this lush meadow. On the road, there is a temple dedicated to Lord Shiva, Parvati, and Ganesha, which gives the area a mystical aura. Move through a woodland section and over steep ascents ahead. Arrive at Taloti Thach, a lush large meadow with stunning surroundings. Get awestruck by the sight of snow-capped Himalayan peaks and pitch your tents in the best viewing area.
    Day - 4
    Taloti Thach to Sarutal
The big day has arrived: you'll be trekking to Sarutal, a pristine glacial lake hidden in the Himalayan serenity. Get up early in the morning to get ready to go. The track is a blend of flat and rugged terrain. Enjoy passing through pristine high-altitude meadows and steep ridges along the way. Then proceed to Sarutal, which is nestled among high Himalayan peaks and lush meadows in an idyllic atmosphere. Not only is the atmosphere lovely, but the views are breathtaking as well. The Swargarohini hills, Blackpeak, and Bandarpoonch can all be seen, as well as the path leading to Bali Pass and Dhumdhar Kandi Pass. Set up your tents in a good location and unwind for the night.
    Day - 5
    Sarutal to Taloti Thach
You must return to Sarutal today after spending a fun night at Taloti Thach. Continue on the same trail across ridges and meadows after breakfast. Arrive at the campsite and savour the joy of camping near Sarutal in peace once more.
    Day - 6
Taloti Thach to Sankri via Taluka
It's time to say goodbye to Taloti Thach and drive for Taluka. The trail descends the entire length, but be cautious when descending because it may be slippery or one can fall due to carelessness. When you walk through the woods, look for bright birds chirping and Langoors hanging from trees and hopping from one to the next. Taluka village is reached after descending via the forest part. After that, get in the car and drive to Sankri. Freshen up, and if the enthusiasm continues, explore the village to learn more about it, especially the villagers' way of life.
    Day - 7
    Sankri to Dehradun
Today is your last day, and you'll be returning to Dehradun. The distance is 220 kilometres, which can be reached in 10 hours by taxi. Prepare yourself early and wish Sankri farewell after breakfast. If one begins their journey early in the morning, they will arrive in Dehradun in the evening.
