Ranthan Kharak Trek is one of the most pristine and lesser-known high-altitude treks in the Kumaon Himalayas of Uttarakhand. This trek offers a rare opportunity to explore untouched Himalayan landscapes, far from crowded trails and commercial trekking routes.

The trail passes through ancient oak and rhododendron forests, traditional Himalayan villages, glacial rivers, and vast alpine meadows known as “Kharaks.” What truly sets this trek apart is the raw wilderness and the uninterrupted views of towering Himalayan peaks like Nanda Devi East and Nanda Kot.

Itinerary Details

Kathgodam to Loharkhet (Drive)
The journey begins with a scenic drive from Kathgodam to Loharkhet via Bageshwar. The route offers beautiful views of rivers, valleys, and mountain roads. Overnight stay at Loharkhet.
Day - 1
Loharkhet to Dhakuri (Trek)
The trek starts with a steep climb through dense forests. As you ascend, you begin to witness stunning views of the surrounding valleys. Dhakuri is a beautiful campsite known for its wide meadows and Himalayan views.
Day - 2
Dhakuri to Khati Village
This day involves descending through forests into the Pindar Valley. Khati village is the last inhabited village on this route and offers a glimpse into traditional Himalayan culture and lifestyle.
Day - 3
Khati to Dwali
The trail continues along the river, surrounded by thick forests and natural beauty. The sound of flowing water and the peaceful environment make this one of the most scenic sections of the trek.
Day - 4
Dwali to Ranthan Kharak
This is one of the most important days of the trek. The trail ascends towards high-altitude meadows known as Kharaks. As you gain altitude, the views open up to reveal stunning Himalayan peaks like Nanda Kot and Nanda Devi East.
Day - 5
Exploration Day & Descent
Wake up early to witness a magical sunrise over the Himalayas. After spending some time exploring the area, begin your descent towards lower camps.
Day - 6
Return to Kathgodam
Trek back to Loharkhet and drive to Kathgodam, marking the end of an unforgettable journey.

Ranthan Kharak Trek is categorized as a moderate-level trek. It is suitable for trekkers who have basic fitness and some prior trekking experience.

Trekkers should be comfortable walking for 5 to 7 hours daily on uneven terrain. Some sections involve steep ascents, which require stamina and endurance.

Regular walking, light cardio, and basic fitness training before the trek are highly recommended.

  • Payment for the remainder / rest of the trip must be made before the trip begins.

  • NEFT, RTGS, SWIFT, Bank Transfer, and Cash are all options for making a reservation.

  • All reservations will be subject to a 5% GST surcharge.

  • The booking deadline will be 07 days prior to the trip departure date.

  • Before making any online booking/reservation, double-check the dates and seat availability with our team through email or phone.

  • If the invoice amount exceeds 2 lacs and payment is made entirely or partially in cash (cash paid at the counter or placed in the bank), a 1% TCS will be applied and must be deposited separately from the total amount, along with a copy of the PAN card.

  • In the case of a flight reservation, full payment is needed according to the applicable airfare.

  • We must be notified through email at info@dreamgohimalayas.in if any trip/adventure activity services are cancelled owing to any avoidable/unavoidable causes.

  • Cancellation fees will apply as of the day we receive notification through mail, and they will be as follows:

    -Within the first 30 days: 90% of the total cost of the Land Package is refundable.

    -Between the ages of 21 and 30 days: 75 percent of the total cost of the land package is refundable.

    -Between 50 and 60 days: 50% of the total cost of the land package is refundable.

    -10 days or less: There will be no reimbursement.

  • After the cancellation date, the refund will be handled within 10 working days.

  • Cancellation fees will be determined based on the total trip cost, and they may vary depending on the date of departure and the date of cancellation.

  • There will be no refunds:

    -for any missed/unused tour services, including meals, owing to any reason.

    -If the tour's services are changed, altered, revised, cancelled, or not used.

    -If a customer cancels or is forced to cancel the tour due to changes in the itinerary or travel

    -If the consumer is dissatisfied with any of the operator's services

Ranthan Kharak Trek is considered a moderate-level trek, so it is not ideal for complete beginners with zero fitness. However, if you have basic stamina and can walk for 5–7 hours a day, you can complete this trek comfortably. Prior trekking experience is helpful but not mandatory if you prepare well.
