The Black Peak Expedition, also known as Kala Nag Expedition, is one of the most thrilling high-altitude mountaineering adventures in the Garhwal Himalayas of Uttarakhand. Standing at an impressive height of 6,387 meters (20,955 ft), Black Peak is the highest summit in the Saraswati Range and is famous for its dark cobra-shaped appearance, which gives it the name “Kala Nag” meaning Black Cobra.

This expedition is specially designed for experienced trekkers and aspiring mountaineers who want to step into the world of technical Himalayan climbing. The route takes you through ancient Himalayan villages, dense pine forests, alpine meadows, glacial valleys, moraines, snow slopes, and challenging summit ridges. Every day of the journey offers breathtaking views of iconic Himalayan peaks including Swargarohini, Bandarpoonch, and the Gangotri range.

Starting from the beautiful village of Sankri, the expedition gradually ascends through Seema, Ruinsara Tal, and Kyarkoti Base Camp before moving toward Advanced Base Camp, Camp 1, and the final summit push. Detailed Black Peak Expedition Itinerary – 16 Days

Experience the complete journey of the Black Peak Expedition through alpine meadows, glaciers, summit camps, and breathtaking Himalayan landscapes.

Day 1 – Dehradun to Sankri

The Black Peak Expedition begins from Dehradun, where the team assembles early in the morning for a scenic drive towards Sankri. The route passes through Mussoorie, Mori, Netwar, and the beautiful Tons Valley, offering breathtaking Himalayan landscapes throughout the journey. After reaching Sankri, trekkers can relax and prepare for the upcoming adventure.

Day 2 – Sankri to Taluka & Trek to Cheludgad Camp

After breakfast, the journey continues with a short drive from Sankri to Taluka, the starting point of the trek. The trail moves through dense forests, wooden bridges, riverside paths, and charming Himalayan villages before reaching Cheludgad campsite.

Day 3 – Cheludgad Camp to Devsu Bugyal

Today’s trek takes you deeper into the Garhwal Himalayas through alpine forests and open meadows. Devsu Bugyal is known for its beautiful grasslands and panoramic Himalayan mountain views.

Day 4 – Devsu Bugyal to Ruinsara Tal

The trail towards Ruinsara Tal is one of the most scenic sections of the expedition. Trekkers pass through alpine valleys, glacial streams, and high-altitude meadows before reaching the stunning Ruinsara Tal lake surrounded by snow-covered peaks.

Day 5 – Ruinsara Tal to Kyarkoti Base Camp

Today marks the official entry into the expedition zone. The trail gradually changes from green meadows to rocky moraines and glacier terrain as the team moves toward Kyarkoti Base Camp.

Day 6 – Acclimatization & Technical Training at Base Camp

This day is reserved for acclimatization and technical mountaineering training. Climbers practice rope techniques, crampon walking, glacier movement, ice axe handling, and fixed rope climbing.

Day 7 – Load Ferry to Advance Base Camp & Return

The team carries expedition supplies and technical equipment to Advance Base Camp before returning to Base Camp. This process improves acclimatization and prepares climbers for higher camps.

Day 8 – Base Camp to Advance Base Camp

Today the team permanently shifts to Advance Base Camp with all essential expedition gear. The terrain becomes more challenging with glacier sections and snow-covered trails.

Day 9 – Advance Base Camp to Summit Camp

The trek towards Summit Camp takes climbers through glacier routes and snow slopes surrounded by spectacular Himalayan scenery. Summit Camp serves as the final preparation point before the summit attempt.

Day 10 – Summit Attempt – Black Peak (Kala Nag)

The summit push begins around midnight as climbers move through steep snow slopes, glacier crossings, and technical summit ridges before finally reaching the summit of Black Peak at 6,387 meters.

Day 11 – Reserved Summit Day

This day is reserved for bad weather conditions or delayed summit attempts. Buffer days are important for improving summit success and expedition safety.

Day 12 – Reserved Summit Day

An additional reserve day is included to manage unexpected weather conditions and ensure proper expedition planning in the high Himalayas.

Day 13 – Summit Camp to Kyarkoti Base Camp

After completing the summit climb, the team descends carefully back towards Kyarkoti Base Camp while enjoying incredible glacier and mountain views.

Day 14 – Kyarkoti Base Camp to Ruinsara Tal

Today’s trek retraces the beautiful trail back towards Ruinsara Tal through alpine valleys and scenic Himalayan landscapes.

Day 15 – Ruinsara Tal to Cheludgad Camp

The descent continues through dense forests, wooden bridges, and riverside trails before reaching Cheludgad campsite.

Day 16 – Cheludgad to Taluka & Drive to Dehradun

On the final day, the team completes the trek back to Taluka and drives towards Dehradun with unforgettable memories of the Black Peak Expedition.

Black Peak Expedition Difficulty Level

The Black Peak Expedition is categorized as a technical high-altitude expedition and is recommended only for experienced trekkers or mountaineers. Climbers should have previous trekking experience above 4,500 meters and excellent physical fitness.

  • All reservations will be subject to a 5% GST surcharge.

  • The booking deadline will be 07 days prior to the trip departure date.

  • Before making any online booking/reservation, double-check the dates and seat availability with our team through email or phone.

  • If the invoice amount exceeds 2 lacs and payment is made entirely or partially in cash (cash paid at the counter or placed in the bank), a 1% TCS will be applied and must be deposited separately from the total amount, along with a copy of the PAN card.

  • In the case of a flight reservation, full payment is needed according to the applicable airfare.

  • We must be notified through email at info@dreamgohimalayas.in if any trip/adventure activity services are cancelled owing to any avoidable/unavoidable causes.

  • Cancellation fees will apply as of the day we receive notification through mail, and they will be as follows:

    -Within the first 30 days: 90% of the total cost of the Land Package is refundable.

    -Between the ages of 21 and 30 days: 75 percent of the total cost of the land package is refundable.

    -Between 50 and 60 days: 50% of the total cost of the land package is refundable.

    -10 days or less: There will be no reimbursement.

  • After the cancellation date, the refund will be handled within 10 working days.

  • Cancellation fees will be determined based on the total trip cost, and they may vary depending on the date of departure and the date of cancellation.

  • There will be no refunds:

    -for any missed/unused tour services, including meals, owing to any reason.

    -If the tour's services are changed, altered, revised, cancelled, or not used.

    -If a customer cancels or is forced to cancel the tour due to changes in the itinerary or travel

    -If the consumer is dissatisfied with any of the operator's services
